Search Party Capital (SPC) is hiring interns to support deal sourcing and evaluation. SPC is a search fund, which is similar to a one-person Private Equity fund. SPC's Principal, Chris Tyler, is responsible for sourcing, acquiring and operating a company with an Enterprise Value of $25mm - $100mm.
Responsibilities
The mission of the intern team is to source and evaluate acquisition opportunities. The team does this via the following activities:
Direct outreach to business owners
- Industry identification: identify industries and sub-industries that are poised for growth in the coming years.
- Company list building: Use Grata to generate lists of businesses that match Search Party Capital’s criteria within an industry (right size, privately held, etc)
- Email campaigns: You’ll find contact information for owners in the selected businesses and create outbound campaigns in Reply.
- Iteration on industry theses: Conversations with business owners help us refine industry theses and generate new niches to reach out to.
Working with intermediaries (business brokers and investment banks)
- Deal screening: review CIMs from brokers to find businesses that match Search Party Capital’s criteria
Company Analysis
- Financial Analysis: analyze financial statements from business owners and intermediaries.
- Strategic Analysis: Help Chris decide whether to continue pursuing the opportunity and, if so, defining the key questions / uncertainties to resolve
Qualifications
- An interest in Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition, Search Funds and private market investing
- An ability to think strategically and help identify industries that are poised for growth in the next five years
- A focus on impact: you’ll have clear metrics to meet and will find creative ways to meet those goals
- A desire for continuous improvement: The process you step into will be well-defined, but I’m looking for people who are always looking to iterate and improve processes
- Bonus points for having a background that’s under-represented in search (i.e., not a white guy)
